Turner syndrome is a well-known cause of proportionately short stature in girls, but its frequency among these patients must vary in different populations. In Brazil, the cytogenetic study of 38 short girls without psychoneuromotor retardation, and without taking into account the presence or absence of dysmorphic signs, revealed that at least 1:8 had Turner syndrome. This is an unexpectedly high frequency ina population which is largely subject to adverse environmental conditions leading to growth deficiency.70172-
