The resonance of a microwave cavity containing a dielectric sample can be described by a characteristic equation. We have investigated some of the numerical solutions of this equation, for the case of TMlmo modes for cylindrical cavities, which are often used for the characterization of the dielectric parameters of the sample. When the domain of variation of these parameters is large, two different comportments of the resonance emerge, the first being characteristic of a sample with small losses, the second, characteristic of a sample with high losses.
