The stability of caesium " Q " type machines is analysed for hot plasma-beam interactions in a very low frequency range in the sheath and in the plasma. A simple sheath theory allows calculation of plasma potential and of current variations as functions of the applied voltage between the emitters. It can be seen that in a general way, a caesium machine working in a vapor pressure mode can be stable, but with direct injection an instability appears above a critical density value when a voltage i s applied between the emitters. Apparently, such an instability is observed in a Cs filled sealed bulb, stable with respect to the sheath and the resistivity, and is attributed to asymmetrics of the emitters.La stabilité des machines au césium du typ...
