We have studied the effect due to the présence of a perturbing atom on the transition moment of an absorbing atom, by taking into account only the interaction between instantaneous dipoles of the pair. It is shown that this effect although small in the case of permitted transitions can become very important for intercombination lines ; furthermore it is predicted that transitions normally forbidden can be induced through this interaction mechanism.
