The experimental data on the magnetic diffusion after-effect can be simply interpreted by using the concept of an after-effect field. This field has been measured on various samples of pure iron containing known concentrations of carbon. In accordance with theory, the after-effect is proportional to the concentration of carbon in solid solution, the carbon forming a precipitate having no influence at all.
