We discuss a method allowing one to increase the rotation of the plane of polarization of an optical beam, produced when it crosses a circularly birefringent gas (e.g. optically pumped gas). The cell containing the gas is inserted inside one of the arms of a Michelson interferometer, the path difference being adjusted so that almost all the optical intensity is reflected backwards ; if the weak beam, which is deflected at right angle by the interferometer, is detected, an enhanced rotation of the plane of polarization can be observed.
