The deuteron beam of the Strasbourg 6 MeV Van de Graaff accelerator was used to produce 8Li nuclei by the 7Li (d, p) 8Li reaction. By means of a special design of the target assembly, which is described, only particles coming from the disintegration of 8Li were allowed to be recorded on an Ilford E1 nuclear track plate. The result of the experiment is given in figure 1. The only clear maximum corresponds to the 3 MeV level of 8Be.
