We analyze the influence of different finite-size effects in the block analysis method in off-lattice fluids. In particular we study the isothermal compressibility of both a hard-disk fluid and a two-dimensional Lennard-Jones fluid. Special emphasis is put on the importance of the size effects related to the choice of the statistical-mechanics ensemble. For the canonical ensemble we propose an expression that allows to accurately extrapolate the results of small systems to the thermodynamic limit
