Using high purity iron-chromium alloys with 30 to 60 mass % Cr, which had been hardly produced because of embrittlement, the effects of Cr content, addition of alloying elements (Mo or W), and purification on the corrosion resistance of these alloys were investigated. From the results of electrochemical measurement and XPS analysis, it was found that general corrosion resistance is improved by addition of W or Mo and purification, and pitting corrosion resistance is improved by the increase of Cr content and the addition of Mo or W. The effect of Mo addition on pitting potential is 5 times as much as that of Cr, and the effect of W addition on pitting potential is twice as much as that of Cr. It is concluded that Fe-30 to 60 mass% Cr alloys...
