The knowledge of the chemical composition at the atomic level of alloys is essential to understand their physical properties. A detailed analysis of the contrast of high resolution images can lead to a semi quantitative evaluation of local changes in the composition. The method will be applied to the study of the γ/γ' interface in a nickel based superalloy and to the determination of the distribution of heavy atoms in the γ' phase
