La pression de vapeur du californium métallique a été mesurée pour des températures comprises entre 500 et 700°C par la méthode d'effusion de Knudsen. Les valeurs précises obtenues pour cette pression de vapeur peuvent être associées à l'estimation de l'énergie libre du solide et à l'entropie S0298 et permettent ainsi d'avoir un bon accord avec les seconde et troisième lois de la thermodynamique. La vaporisation est décrite par l'équation : Log10 P (atm) = - (9 895 ± 34)/ T = 5,675 ± 0,039 à partir de laquelle on obtient ƊH0298 = 46 900 ± 2 300 cal./mole.
