The time-temperature superposition principle, frequently used to describe relaxation phenomena in solids is discussed within the framework of general functions leading to sclaing with translation parallel to the horizontal axis. Finally, the concepts developed are applied to particular functions used in the literature to describe relaxation phenomena in polymers and in crystalline solids
