A report is given of recent crossed-beams studies of electron capture and ionization in ion-ion collisions. Special attention is drawn to the simplest collision systems H+ + He+ and He+ + He+ involving only one and two electrons, respectively. Collisions involving multiply-charged ions are discussed, where they are available
