L'existence d'une grande susceptibilité non-linéaire du troisième ordre, X(3), dans les semiconducteurs (en particulier, dans les composés III-V) produit de nouveaux types d'ondes électromagnétiques de surface localisées aux interfaces métal-semiconducteur. La relation de dispersion de ces ondes est fonction de leur intensité. Nous avons observé récemment pour la première fois, ces ondes électromagnétiques de surface non-linéaires aux interfaces Ag-Si et Ag-GaAs.
