Un générateur d'impulsions de 2TW produit, à partir d'une bouffée de gaz, une colonne de plasma de densité élevée. On a étudié ces implosions de bouffées de néon et d'argon du point de vue de la réalisation d'un milieu laser. L'appareillage utilisé pour les diagnostics permet l'observation radiale du rayonnement pour estimer l'uniformité et le degré d'ionisation des plasmas. L'interprétation des données spectroscopiques obtenues sur le néon introduit sous forme de trace dans les plasmas d'argon, indique une température trop élevée (200-300 eV) pour une production efficace d'ions Ar IX (isoélectronique du néon).
