Synthesized timpani-like sounds based on physical models are obtained by solving the equations governing the motion of the membrane with the help of the finite differences method. The membrane is loaded by a kettle enclosure filled with air and is set in vibration by means of a stick. In this paper a model including the computation of the pressure in the vicinity of the membrane is presented. The coupling between the membrane and the stick is described by a rupture model.
