This article's proposition is to discuss the social function of community health agents (CHA) in the production of urban public health service, within the situated action perspective. The service, which is co-produced with its users, is analyzed as a result of the triangular relation between the State, its agents and the amount of users, which the latter is part of (living in the same "micro-area" is a criteria to the selection). On the one hand, this category of "subaltern" social workers, in charge of the development of the Family Health Program (PSF), descends from the popular movements of the 1980s (National Health Movement).
