Activated carbon materials (MCA) present a high specific superficial areas and an increased volume of pores in its carbon matrix. The main MCA production processes use as raw material precursors with high carbon content. Petroleum coke (CP), residue with high fixed carbon content and low ash content, with a practically amorphous structure, has little commercial value. A study on the production of MCA from CP originating from the coke unit at Paulinia Refinery (Replan/Petrobras) was carried out. Changes in process parameters caused structural changes in the porous net of the MCA obtained, allowing to realize superficial areas of ≤ 2500 sq m/g with narrow distributions of the size of pores and features of molecular sieves.511-34565BANSAL, R.C...
