The degradation of dioxane-lignin from Pinus radiata D. Don caused by ligninase and by horse-radish peroxidase under photochemical pretreatment was studied. The photochemical modifications of the dioxanelignin were followed using UV-visible spectroscopy and fluorescence. A rapid decrease in the lignin fluorescence at 400 nm (λexc = 360 nm) after irradiation at different fluences was observed. There is a correlation between the ligninase activity and the photon emission of the enzymatic systems as measured by the oxidation of veratryl alcohol.
