Tritium produced by the 6Li(n,α)3H reaction in solid lithium carbonate is found, after aqueous dissolution, principally as tritiated water, formate and acetate. The relative quantities of the tritiated organic compounds are sensitive to increases in the irradiation dose, which reduces the amount of formate precursor, and to elevated temperatures. Thermal annealing in the temperature range 250-350°C, gives a sharp reduction in the quantities of solid state precursors of both tritiated water and of the tritiated organic species. Possible solid state precursors are discussed in terms of their response to the radiation and thermal treatments. © 1977.395745748Costea, Mǎntescu, (1966) J. Inorg. Nucl.
