Alzheimer's Disease [doença De Alzheimer]

Alzheimer's disease appears to be the most prevalent cognitive progressive disorders in elderly. It has a negative impact in patient, and family, and society and economy. Differential diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and primary dementia disorders was clinically and based on international criteria consensus. The pathology of dementia disorders in Alzheimer's disease are complex and implicated beta-amyloid and Tau protein deposition on limbic system initialed, with disseminates to temporal, parietal and finally to all cortex brain. Neuropsychological evaluation is fundamental to determine cognitive decline and progression, and prominent or persistent memory impairment with progression is characteristics of Alzheimer's disease. Laboratory features, brain images and serum evaluation, are negative especially in early stages of Alzheimer's disease. Individualized behavioral, environmental, and pharmacologic therapies are used to alleviate symptoms and support patients and their families, and prolonged cognitive life of patients. The clinical prognosis of cognitive deterioration and function in Alzheimer's disease patients are limited.
