Vulnerability is a phenomenon of late modernity, a characteristic of the confrontation of danger at different scales. Risk and uncertainty, penetrating all areas of social life, have become indispensable for understanding contemporary spatial-temporal dynamics, calling for a wide-ranging view of vulnerability in its inherent multidimensionality.
