This work presents a new methodology for static contingency analysis of electric power systems by using Continuation Methods. The post-contingency loading margin is obtained from the base case maximum loading point. The voltage magnitude of any bus can be used as a parameter in the parameterization step of the proposed continuation power flow. The branch selected for contingency evaluation is parameterized by a scaling factor which allows its the gradual removal and assures the continuation power flow convergence for the cases where the method would diverge for the complete transmission line removal.
