The construction of M-PSK block modulation codes for the Rayleigh fading channel is considered. Some new codes constructed by two different methods are presented. The first method, an exhaustive computer search, is appropriate for short block lengths; some optimum codes are found. The second method is for multilevel block codes; in this case, the cutoff rate performance criterion for multistage decoding is used. Based on results, it is concluded that the second method can propose codes that achieve improvement over known codes for low and moderate SNRs.15
