This article presents a software implementation of a MPEG-2 transcoder developed as part of a project on digital video transcoding for the Brazilian System of Digital Television (SBTVD). The transcoder generates a MPEG-2 bit stream from another MPEG-2 bit stream with different attributes. The main advantage of the proposed transcoder is its reduced computational complexity, when compared to the trivial cascade transcoder.
