THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF OBJECTIVE TEST DEVELOPED BY ENGLISH TEACHERS IN DONGGALA

The research is intended to find out the difficulty level of objective test developed by English teachers. This study is descriptive because it describes the difficulty level of the English objective test used in school examination for the ninth grade students of SMP in Donggala on academic year 2014/2015. The population of this research was 23 English tests and the sample is English objective test used in school examination for the ninth grade students of SMP in Donggala on academic year 2014/2015, having 50 multiple choice items. The researcher used purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was the English objective test used in school examination for the ninth grade students of SMP in Donggala on academic year 2014/2015 and students’ answer sheets. The difficulty level of the test is in medium level in 0.55 ranges, which means the criterion of this test is a good test, in terms of difficulty level. The result of this research recommends that classroom teachers or test makers when finding a high or low difficulty item, need to review which items that make the test too easy or too difficult and to revise good item for the next test.
