EFFECT OF USING PARAGRAPH HAMBURGER STRATEGY ON STUDENTS WRITING ACHIEVEMENTS

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using ParagraphHamburger Strategy on writing achievements of grade VII students at SMPN15 Palu. This research used quasi experimental research design. In selectingthe sample, the researcher used cluster sampling strategy . The experimentagroup was given the treatment, while the control group was not. Data werecollected using pretest and posttest. The pretest was used to find out thestudents’ performance in writing descriptive text before getting the treatmentwhile the posttest was used to find out the students’ progress as the result ofthe treatment given. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0.05 level ofsignificance and 53 degree of freedom (df). To prove whether the hypothesisof this research was accepted or rejected, the researcher used testinghypothesis with following criteria. If t- counted is higher than t table, it meansthat the hypothesis is accepted. In contrast, if the t counted is lower than t table, thehypothesis would be rejected. The results of the tests show that the meanscore of the experimental group in the pretest to the posttest increased from41 into 62.6 while on the control group descent from 42 to 40.3. The t-tesvalue is 8.7. The result of the data analysis shows that t-counted value (8.7) isgreater than t-table value (0.221), it means that the hypothesis is accepted.Based on the result, the researcher concludes that the use of HamburgerParagraph Strategy has positive effect on the writing achievements of gradeseven students of SMPN 15 Palu.
