THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING VOCABULARY THROUGH PICTURE

The objective of this research was tofind out the effectiveness of the use of picture in teaching vocabulary to the grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 6 Palu. This research applied true-experimental research design with 60 students as sample. It was selected by using a random sampling technique. The population was 300 students which were divided into 10 classes. The instrument of data collection was a test divided into pre-test and post-test. The data gathered were analyzed statistically. The researcher computed tcounted in order to know the significant difference of the students’ knowledge after they had finished getting the treatment. The result shows that the tcounted (2.76) was higher than t-table (2.000). It can be concluded that the research hypothesis was accepted.In other words, the use of picture can effectively improve the teaching of vocabulary of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 6 Palu.
