IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE GRADE EIGHT STUDENTS THROUGH SUMMARIZING TECHNIQUE

The objective of this research is to prove whether or not the use of summarizing technique can improve reading comprehension of the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 9 Palu. The researcher used a quasi experimental research design. The population of this research was the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 9 Palu and the sample were VIII D (experimental group) and VIII C (control group). The sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument for collecting data was test which consistently of pre-test and post-test. The data collected were analyzed statistically. After collecting the data, the researcher finds that the t-counted (6.24) is greater than the t-table (1.67) by applying 0.05 level of significance and the degree of freedom (df) 61. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the use of Summarizing Technique can improve reading comprehension of the grade eight of SMP Negeri 9 Palu.Keywords:Improving, Summarizing Technique, Reading Comprehensio
