Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) occupies a major position in Brazilian agriculture, as the grains represent an important source of proteins and minerals for the population. Common bean may establish a symbiotic relation with bacteria capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen (N2), the majority classified into the genus Rhizobium.
