Over the last decade, increasing attention has been focused on the health of children with disorders of sex development (DSD) and the gaps in our knowledge of how early care may be linked to long-term outcome. In the current environment of greater collaboration as part of clinical and research networks, stronger links have been forged between professionals, patients and parents and guidelines have been developed for directing care. With continuing technological advances it is likely that our ability to reach a firm diagnosis will improve but this needs to be put in context of optimal long-term outcome.
