Jan Čulík interviews Professor Martin Štoll, a documentarist film maker, film theoretician and historian of television about his new book Television and Totalitarianism in Czechoslovakia (Bloomsbury Publishers, New York), detailing the history of the attempts to start TV broadcasting in Czechoslovakia. These date back to the 1920s and are associated with the beginning of radio broadcasting in Czechoslovakia in 1923. TV broadcasting was eventually started in the post-Stalinist period in 1953.
