In view of the critical role that the Ca2+- and phospholipid-dependent enzyme protein kinase C (PKC) plays in mediating proliferative responses to a number of growth factors, hormones, and tumor promoters, it is thought that selective PKC inhibitors may provide a new class of antiproliferative drugs.
