PERSEPSI MASYARAKAT TERHADAP BENCANA BANJIR LAHAR HUJAN DI KECAMATAN SALAM KABUPATEN MAGELANG STUDI KASUS DI DESA JUMOYO DAN DESA SIRAHAN

Lava flood in Jumoyo and Sirahan Villages, Salam Sub-district, Magelang Regency has caused damages in housing sector, infrastructures and agricultural lands. This disaster brought several consequences including implementation of spatial policy in disaster affected areas, disaster risk reduction policy and housing relocation. Until today the implementation of housing relocation policy has not been finished. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method to describe public perception on lava flood, disaster prone areas, disaster risk reduction and housing relocation. Data was collected from interviews, and questionnaires to respondents in Jumoyo and Sirahan Villages, with total population 785 heads of family and 99 samples, observation and documentation from local goverment official. The result of the study showed that some respondents perceived their former houses as safe for permanent residences and other respondents perceived that their former houses were unsafe for permanent residences. Disaster prone area implementation was approved by the public as a disaster mitigation effort, but some people disagreed if the location was not recommended for permanent residences. Some respondents perceived relocation as the best disaster risk reduction for affected areas, but others perceived that reduction risk disaster for the areas could be done with construction of disaster prevention infrastructures. During relocation socialization stage, the public was not interested and tended to disagree with the relocation. After the first stage of relocation construction was finished, public�s approval and trust increased although some still disagreed with relocation
