PERILAKU OWA JAWA(Hylobates moloch) DALAM MENGGUNAKAN DAERAH JELAJAH DI HUTAN SOKOKEMBANG, PEKALONGAN

The information about Javan Gibbon is very diverse but less depth on the behavior of home range use in Sokokembang Forest, Pekalongan, Central Java. Javan gibbon group in using environmental resources available in its home range and hierarchically performed to survive. Hence, there are formed an area with various animal presence intensity within home range.The purposes of this study are to know home range, determine the differences of the environment characteristics (biotic and abiotic) and the behavior of Javan Gibbon group in home range with it�s presence in high intensity (core area) and low intensity. Regions with different intensity levels could be determined by using Kernel methods in extension programs HRT (Home Range Tools) for ArcGIS 9.3. Based on the analysis which has been done it was resulting that the home range of Javan Gibbon group in Slimpet � Watu Payung Hill, Sokokembang forest are 8.97 ha with 2.49 ha are areas of animal presence in high intensity. There are differences of biotic and abiotic characteristics in the various regions with different animal presence intensities in their home range. Based on T-test, the differences can be found in the altitude, the number of tree species, the number of food tree species, tree basal area and tree density. The canopy shows that there is no difference in various regions with different intensities presence. The formation of home range with the different of Javan Gibbon group presence causes the difference of using it for their activities. The Javan Gibbon group appears frequently in high intensity by 71% than the areas with low intensity presence by 29%. The difference in using the home range appears in the behavior of moving, resting and social activities. The feeding behavior is same in the home range with both high and low of intensity presence
