PENGARUH EKSTRAK APEL (Malus sylvestris Mill.) TERHADAP EFEKTIVITAS PENGHILANGAN STAIN EKSTRINSIK PADA PERMUKAAN GIGI, GIGI TIRUAN, DAN PLAT RESIN AKRILIK (KAJIAN IN VITRO)

Chromogens from foods and beverages could cause extrinsic stains on the surface of teeth, acrylic resin denture teeth, and acrylic resin denture base. Malang apples contain malic acid, ellagic acid, hydrogen peroxide which are potential in having an ability to remove extrinsic stains. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Malang apple extracts (Malus sylvestris Mill.) in toothpaste to the effectiveness of the removal of extrinsic stains on the surface of teeth, acrylic resin denture teeth, and acrylic resin denture base. Fifteen maxillary first premolar extracted teeth, 15 maxillary first premolar acrylic resin denture teeth, and 15 acrylic resin denture base (20x10x3) mm3 initially photographed with DSLR camera Nikon® D7100. All subjects were immersed in a black tea solution for six days and then photographed after immersion. Each of these types of subjects were divided into 3 treatment groups, each group consisted of 5 subjects. The first group known as a negative control group was brushed with basic paste, the second group was brushed with Malus sylvestris Mill. paste, and the third group as a positive control group was brushed with stains removal toothpaste (Zact®). Then photographed after brushing. Image analysis was performed using ImageJ software to measure the color intensity.
