SIKAP BAHASA MASYARAKAT BATAK TOBA TERHADAP BAHASA BATAK TOBA (Sebuah Studi Kasus di Kelurahan Hutabarangan Kecamatan Sibolga Utara, Kecamatan Sibolga Utara - Provinsi Sumatera Utara)

This thesis analyzes language attitude of Batak Toba society towards the Batak Toba language itself in Hutabarangan Village, District of North Sibolga, Sibolga, North Sumatra Province from sociolinguistic perspective. This study aims at describing the tendency of attitudes Batak Toba society towards Batak Toba language. In addition, this study also aims at describing the use of language and the language choice related to the ability to speak in three languages.The three languages are: Batak Toba, Indonesian, and Coastal Sibolga language. This study refers to Anderson's theory of language and attitudes related theories, such as bilingualism, language use, and language retention. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods. The implementation of this method is conducted through the steps of collecting data, analyzing data, and presenting the results of analysis. In collecting the data, respondents are involved for amount forty people. They were divided into two groups, namely the elderly group and the younger group. The result of analyses shows that the type of BatakToba society attitude towards Batak Toba language can be divided into two, namelythe attitude of language in terms of practical use and language attitudes in terms of psychic elements to the Toba Batak language. The results found in the first type are the language attitude of the old is positive, whereas the language attitude of the young is negative. Meanwhile in the second type,the language attitude found for the old are positive and so as for the young. The conclusion that can be drawn is apparently positive language attitude by the young towards a language not making it as the language they mostly used then
