Background: In primary care setting, GERD can be diagnosed based on the presenting symptoms alone. Currently, endoscopy is the first choice of diagnosis technique in the investigation of GERD in clinical practice and research. The classical symptoms of GERD are usually heartburn, feeling that food stuck behind the breastbone (sternum), nausea, and so on. The symptoms are frequently reported to occur during night time where it is associated with more severe injury of the mucosa.
