PENYESUAIAN DIRI MAHASISWA PAPUA DALAM INTERAKSI DENGAN MASYARAKAT JAWA DI YOGYAKARTA

This research was a phenomenology approach of qualitative research with purposed to analyze self-adjustment of Papua college students in interaction with Javanese society in Yogyakarta. The data were collected by interviewed and observation towards five (5) subjects as native people of Papua where have been staying in Yogyakarta more than 1 years, never came to Yogyakarta before, and were above 18 years old. This result showed that self-adjustment appeared as efforts to filled people�s demands about the rules and values that should be obey. All responses of subjects consist of any defense and coping reaction and supported by good social adjustment. Any influencing factors of self-adjustments process have found such as internal factors that consist of motivations, perceptions, attitudes, hopes, and habituation that was a part of individuals� personality and bring about individual differences on this process. And then external factors that came from environmental influencing such as family and college students supports, people acceptance, and other supports from university or social organization. Personally, these efforts become a dynamic series and ongoing process for individual to develop better into an adult and mature. And then socially, these efforts can help individual to establish a good social interaction and maintaining their relationship with Javanese society in Yogyakarta
