ASPEK GENDER PADA PERMUKIMAN ADAT MASYARAKAT TORAJA (STUDI KASUS PADA SITUS KE'TE' KESU')

Topic : Ethnoarchaeological study on the gender aspect of the traditional settlement of the Torajan society in the Ke�te� Kesu� Site. Issue : How the gender concept is been applied in the Torajan Traditional Settlement Complex of Ke�te� Kesu� ? Objectives : To find out the role and position of male and female toward the Torajan Society in the traditional settlement of Ke�te� Kesu� where Megalitic tradition is still alive. Method : This research is using spatial and symbol analysis to find out the gender aspect of a traditional settlement. Conclusion : Ke�te� Kesu� society has possesing a unique gender aspect. Toward their daily social life, the Ke�te� Kesu� people have clearly divided their role and the work area of male and female. The male has a role inclined to masculin and public, whereas the female�s role is feminin and domestic. The Ke�te� Kesu� society has also more respect toward the female instead of the male. This respect is can be seen on the way they treat the deadbody of female. The number of sacrificed animal for the female�s deadbody is higher than that of male. Besides that, the respect toward the female has also been shown by protecting the female from enemies when the war happened. Besides the existence of clearly division of the roles and work area and also the more respect toward one of the gender, Ke�te� Kesu people have also recognized the equality of male and female rights. Male and female are possesing equal rights as such in electing the chieftain, participating on the traditional rituals, and the allotment of family inherritance
