PERSEPSI MASYARAKAT TENTANG JAMPERSAL DI KABUPATEN JEMBER

Background: Improvement of maternal health status in Jember is not maximized, although since 2011 the Jampersal program has been implemented. This marked with the high number of maternal deaths in 2011, especially during childbirth. In addition to health care and health insurance, the health status of the maternal is also influenced by maternal education, culture, environment, income, knowledge, attitudes toward health care, and costs. Understanding of the signs of labor and the emergency during pregnancy also influence health behavior and utilization of maternal health services in a timely manner. Objective: This study aimed to explore the perception, culture and knowledge, of Jember community about Jampersal, during labor, the emergency delivery, and explore the effects of the Jampersal program in over coming the barriers to utilize of maternal health services. Methods: This study was a qualitative research, conducted in Jember District East Java Province. The research subjects were 34 persons, who were the community members of two subdistricts in Jember consisting of laboring women and their spouses aged 18-45 years, and lived in the working area of Jember District heealth centers. Primary data was collected through, in-depth interviews and focus group discussion (FGD). Data was analized systematically from transcript until analysis. Results: This study shows, although Jampersal been socialized but Jember society still felt not concerned with jampersal, as their needs. Jampersal has reduced the financial burden during labor but the overall couldn�t eliminate the financial barrier. Society still has a social barrier when using jampersal such a shame to come midwife for labor. Their perceptions of Jampersal heavily influenced by tradition/culture that they are still believed. While coordination between the local health department and the local government on the implementation of Jampersal in Jember yet harmonious. Conclusion: Jember society has a very diverse culture that influence health behavior. It Needs to be done about the counseling process Jampersal to overcome, especially in specific groups can not afford, extreme poverty
