ANALISIS INTERVENSI NATO TERHADAP LIBYA :PERSPEKTIF POSKOLONIAL

NATO�s military intervention in Libya was a controversial phenomenon in the international political arena. The beginning of the conflict started with peaceful Libyan demonstrators demanding the resignation of Qaddafi, but they were responded to with military force. The conflict eventually led to the outbreak of civil war and this became the entry point for the West/ NATO to intervene. The UN adopted Resolutions 1970 and 1973, invoking Articles 39, 41 and 42 of Chapter VII of the UN Charter, and the UN Security Council authorized NATO to intervene with military force. Libya�s oil wealth posed a special attraction and was a very important factor in why the West wanted to intervene. Finally, NATO /the West in collaboration with the Libyan rebels successfully managed to topple Qaddafi�s regime, which has been in power for nearly 42 years. The author of this thesis analyzes these events using a postcolonial perspective. Her analysis is supported by several expert opinions including Spivak, Said and Fanon. The decision of the UN Security Council to authorize and legitimize NATO to intervene in Libya using military force was influenced by Western powers and shows their control of the UN Security Council. This proves the West has an authority through which they establish their validity to reach their goals. Operation Unified Protector is strong evidence and proves that the West has an authority complex. On the other end of the spectrum, the Libyan rebels demonstrate dependency syndrome, because they deliberately invited the West to aid them in changing the Libyan regime. As a result, an unequal power relationship formed and because of this the government of Libya, until now, continues to be economically and politically controlled according to the West's agenda
