GAMBARAN PENERAPAN KOMUNIKASI TERAPEUTIK PERAWAT DALAM PEMBERIAN INJEKSI DI RUANG RAWAT INAP RSUD PANEMBAHAN SENOPATI BANTUL

Background: Communication is the main method in the implementation of the nursing process. It is also necessary skill for nurses whom are the front-liner in health care. One of the communication skills that should be possessed by nurses is therapeutic communication. If therapeutic communication can be performed well, patients�anxiety and fear can be resolved. However, communication skill of nurses at Panembahan Senopati Bantul Hospital is diverse. It has proven from the results of interview of 12 researchers whom himself or his family received treatement at Panembahan Senopati Bantul Hospital. Objective: This research was aimed to assess and to capture general view of the application of nurse therapeutic communication when performing injection at the ward of Panembahan Senopati Bantul. Methods: This study is a quantitative descriptive design. The experiment was conducted at the ward of Panembahan Senopati Bantul Yogyakarta. The sample selection method used purposive proportional sampling that consists of 57 nurses. Data analysis applied univariate analysis, T Tidak Berpasangan, One Way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The results indicated that application of nurse therapeutic communication during performing injection at the ward of Panembahan Senopati Bantul is categorized as Very Good, Good and Sufficient for the overall result of phasses accumulation of pre-interaction, orientation, work and termination phase. Whereas, examining each stage could yield different result. There are nurses who are categorized as poor at all phases when carefully examined at each phase. In particular, at the termination stage, there are nurses whose are even categorized as very less. Application of nurse therapeutic communication is influenced by age, gender, length of employment, level of education, and treatment classes. These factors are categorized as Good by the majority of the work force. Statistical analysis showed that there is significant difference in the value of the nurse therapeutic communication during performing injection depending on the treatment classes among mixed class, class 3, Main class and VIP. Conclusion: In general, the application of nurse therapeutic communication during performence of injection at the ward of Panembahan Senopati Bantul is categorized as Good
