PRASANGKA RASIAL DAN HIBRIDITAS DALAM SYAIR KOMPENI WELANDA BERPERANG DENGAN TJINA: TINJAUAN POSKOLONIALISME

This research discusses the text of the Sja�ir Kompeni Welanda Berperang dengan Tjina (herein after referred as SKWBdT) which became an important part of the Malay literary classic that is still associated with study of postcolonialism in Indonesian history. SKWBdT text is a text which has close links with the historical background, which tells of the Chinese revolt in Batavia and Madura War. This text is motivated by the events of the massacre of Chinese by the Dutch colonial rulers. Not less than ten thousand Chinese people were slaughtered in a violent incident known as Tragedi Berdarah Angke on October 9, 1740. The purpose of this study was to describe the relations between nations as a result of contact between the natives, China, and the Dutch as that is in the text SKWBdT. In this context, the relationship between the two cultures make the concept of ambivalence and hybridity. Aspects of ambivalence and hybridity in SKWBdT text to be studied in more depth in the frame poskolonialisme theory. Hybridity focuses on the interaction between different cultural forms that one time will make the formation of a new culture and identity. In this study, philological methods would not be used because the writer does not transliterate the manuscripts of SKWBdT and relying on a script that has been transliterated by J. Rusconi for his dissertation at the University of Utrecht. Method to be used is the method of contrapuntal reading. To handle this text, contrapuntal reading methods used to deal with this because the text is one of the classic literary texts that have relevance to the issue of colonialism and imperialism. The results prove that the relationship between natives, Chinese, and Dutch in the text SKWBdT embedding tinged with mutual stereotypes. Perceptions of Chinese in the eyes of natives is based on differences of race, class, and religion that makes a stereotypes. Stereotypes then create barriers between groups of nations are becoming increasingly apparent. In addition, elements of ambivalence and hybridity still affect the relation between natives, Chinese, and Dutch people in the text of SKWBdT
