MYTH OF PETALANGAN IN TENAS EFFENDY�S BUJANG TAN DOMANG (A STUDY OF MYTH ROLAND BARTHES)

This study explains the myths and ideologies contained in the Bujang Tan Domang, Sastra Lisan Orang Petalangan, that arranged by Tenas Effendy. The theory used is the myth theory of Roland Barthes . The basic concept of this theory states that everything basically narrative has the potential be contained myth inside. Myth, according to Barthes is a second level tagging system, which is a type of speech whose main function changes the history into nature. The history that is changed to nature is an attempt to plug a certain ideology and interests. Bujang Tan Domang as object of study in this research contains transcripts of oral to writing an oral literature Nyanyi Panjang belongs to pesukuan Monti Raja, one of pesukuan in Petalangan society in Riau. In addition, the book also comes with a foreword from Henri Chambert-Loir and introduction of Tenas Effendy. The introduction consists of bookkeeping reasons of Bujang Tan Domang oral literature, the methods used, as well as an explanation of Nyanyi Panjang and current condition Petalangan society Based on the myth theory of Roland Barthes, this research explains semiology system from Bujang Tan Domang book that consist of linguistic system and myth system. From both systems, it is searched denotation meaning, connotation meaning, form, and concept to find out the relation one and the others. Reading toward the relation between denotation and connotation meaning, form and concept will show the myth that is contained in Bujang Tan Domang book. After myth is found, so it is show ideology and importance that contained in the book. . The result of this research shows that Bujang Tan Domang is a polities and ideologies book. Text of Nyanyi Panjang Bujang tan Domang story is form that utilizes concept (intention, motivation, and context) to construct a myth that Petalangan is the representation of Riau. The process occurs the myth of Petalangan as Riau related with two main ideologies in this book, they are nationalism of Riau and tribute of Malays values beside an effort to reinforce of identity in global era, also a strategy that makes culture as the tool to get aids that have a economy quality
