Background: Growth status and growth velocity are important markers of the health of the aging low birth weight infant. Several studies have shown that postnatal growth restriction in low birth weight infant is associated with long term adverse neuro-developmental sequelae. While infant with excessive weight gain in early weeks of life have a greater likelihood of later childhood and adult obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
