Perilaku Memilih Warga Nagari Lumpo Kecamatan IV Jurai Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan Provinsi Sumatera Barat pada Pemilu Legislatif Tahun 2009

This study aims to determine what factors influence the voting decision of Nagari Lumpo citizens in legislative elections 2009. It is interesting to observed that, before the election held, it appears a wide range of issues and political turmoil in Nagari Lumpo. One of them is the third time nomination for their trusted political leaders as Parliament members of South Coastal District. Then, considering the community characteristics of Nagari Lumpo which well-known with their low level of education background and also the majority work as farmers, then, how such character will cause the people not to vote according to their conscience. Based on the background as described above it then made a problem formulation as in this study on whether the orientation factor and the Candidate Endorsement factor (support) will influence on voting behavior Nagari Lumpo communities in the 2009 Legislative Election in the South Coastal District? The used theories in answering the question above is the first, voting behavior, on factors that influence voting behavior, and of course, equipped with a psychological theory that the main theory of the orientation factor candidates and also the theory of Behavioral Decision Theory (BDT) as the main theory of Endorsement factors (support). This research uses descriptive method in form of descriptive research method used in this study is a survey. Source of research data derived from primary data and secondary data. Techniques of data collection done by: kusioner (questionnaire), interview, and study documentation. The unit of analysis is the electorate in the Legislative Election 2009 in Nagari Lumpo. The sampling technique used is a multi-stage random sampling. Respondents were sampled in this study as many as 385 people. In this study, quantitative analytical technique used is the method of Chi Square Test, Multiple Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression. The results showed that, Legislative Election 2009 in Nagari Lumpo, there was a significant influence (real) of the candidate orientation and endorsement (support) factors toward voting behavior of Nagari Lumpo citizens. It was based on testing the partial correlation between the candidates orientation and endorsements with voting behavior. The results of correlation test showed that candidate orientation variable has correlation coefficient of 0.336 by significance of 0.000. While the endorsement variable has correlation coefficient of 0.249 by significance of 0.000. Comparing both correlation coefficient and significance, it could be concluded that candidates orientation variable is relatively more dominant in influencing the voting behavior. Since based on the orientation value of the candidate variable correlation coefficient is larger compared to endorsements variable . These results were also supported by multiple linear regression testing, where the known value of R square of 0.128. It means that variations in voting behavior of respondents in the legislative elections can be explained by variations in the orientation of the candidates and endorsements by 12.8%. While the rest of 87.2% is explained by factors other than the candidate orientation and endorsement (support)
