PENGGUNAAN LIMBAH BAN SEBAGAI MATERIAL ADITIF LOKAL UNTUK CAMPURAN ASPAL BUTON

Road is important in economic growth activated at national, regional, district and village levels. The main purpose of road is to improve distribution of goods, services and support people mobility. There are two kinds of asphalt namely natural asphalt and petroleum asphalt. Natural asphalt is available and mined from nature, like Lawele and Kabungka asphalt from Buton Island. In this research use Buton Rock Asphalt Macadam from Lawele, product by PT. Buton Asphalt Indonesia. Characteristics of pure asphalt can be improved by adding local additives modifiers. Rubber manufactured from vehicle tires, has been recognized as one of asphalt additive. Use of tire rubber as asphalt modifier may also solve environmental problem, especially to minimize waste amount. Rubber powder as additive was added 19% by weight of asphalt, in two mixing temperature 120oC and 150oC. At temperature 150oC has produce good sample of asphalt-rubber mixture than at 120oC. The result of asphalt-rubber mixture are lower VFWA (%), higher VITM (%) and higher flow value, that are out from standart specification, but some result has good specifitaion such VMA (%), stability value and Marshall quotient. Indirect tensile strength test, by adding of rubber powder showed that indirect tensile strength decrease compared with asphalt mixture without rubber powder addition
