ADAPTABILIT AS DAN PERTUMBUHAN TIGA JENIS TENGKA WANG DI LAHAN RAWA GAMBUT P.T. INHUTANI II UNIT KALIMANTAN BARAT

All tengkawang trees produce commercial value of oil-bearing seeds belong to the meranti group (Shorea spp.). Silviculture technique is required to develop these species. Meanwhile, forest development often encounters site condition problem for plantation establishment, including peat swamp land. A research on species site matching was essential in order to recognize suitable tengkawang species established on this site. The purposes of this research were to analyze species adaptability and to identify the suitable tengkawang species on the test location. The research was carried out on peat swamp area of PT. Inhutani II, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. Plantations of three tengkawang species S. stenoptera, S. pinanga, and S. guiso, have been observed as research materials. This plantation has been established in 2005 and the observation was performed in the period of March 2007 until January 2008 using Completely Randomized Design with 12 replications and 10 individuals for each plot. The research resulted variation of survival rates, i.e. 85% (S. stenoptera), 73.33% (S. pinanga), and 63% (S. guiso). The latter species also found as the slowest growing species with a height increment of 6.42 cm, whereas S. stenoptera and S. pinanga grew twice faster, i.e. 12.8 cm and 12.4 em, respectively. It indicated that the suitable tengkawang species for peat swamp area on this site were S.pinanga and S. stenoptera.
