REHABILITASI KAWASAN RUTAN PELAIHARI KALIMANTAN SELATAN (Forest Rehabilitation at Pelaihari. South Kalimantan)

The plantation forest (HTI) at Pelaihari. South Kalimantan was developed by PT. INHUTANIIII in forest area functioning as permanent production forest, with designated a total area of 27 5000 ha. Up untill now it has been established around 13 000 ha plantation of Acacia sp and Eucalyptus sp. At 5 - 7 years of age the mean wood poduction is 100 mJ per ha.. The HTI project was funded using from reforestation fund. ADB loan and internal source. The objective of HTI project is to produce wood for sawn timber and pulp. To increase the productivity of forest land. the application of intensive silviculture is a must. One of the component of intesive silvikulture is the use of impoved seed. IHUTANI III has been actively cooperated with other research institutions to establsih seed orchards of Acacia mangium and Eucalyptus pellita. At the momentwe has been reengineeringour entire working area, including Pelaihari. It is intended to create our forest to become an economic unit which is autonomous without neglecting sustainable principles of forest management. The reeingineering of HTI at Pelaihari is used as a support to compile a document of policy planning program which is integral strategy of the company management in plantation forests.
